Online Summer Courses

Whether you stay in town or are thousands of miles away, you can still make progress toward your degree by taking an online course.  This summer, UC Davis offers fully online courses in communications, writing, and Spanish.  Or consider taking a course from a sister UC campus through UC Online.

UWP 1V Expository Writing

UWP 1V. Expository Writing  

  • Online lecture/discussion—4 hours.
  • Prerequisite: completion of Entry-Level Writing Requirement.
  • Instructor:  Staff

UWP 1V introduces composition, the essay, paragraph structure, diction, and related topics. Frequent writing assignments.  In this fully online course.  you will meet in a real-time virtual environment; separate asynchronous online modules make up the remainder of the course activities.

GE credit: Wrt (cannot be used to satisfy a college or university composition requirement and GE writing experience simultaneously).

SPA 2V and 3V: Elementary Spanish

SPA 2V

  • Web virtual lecture—3 hours; web electronic discussion—2 hours.
  • Prerequisite: course 1, 1S, or previous high school Spanish language experience.
  • Instructor:  Robert Blake. 

Continuation of course 1, 1S, or previous high school experience in the areas of grammar and basic language skills. The online format combines synchronous chatting with technologically-based materials. Not open for credit to students who have taken course 2, 2S, 2Y, or higher. GE credit: WC. 

SPA 3V

  • Web virtual lecture—3 hours; web electronic discussion—2 hours.
  • Prerequisite: course 2, 2S, 2V, or 2Y. Continuation of course 2, 2S, 2V or 2Y.
  • Instructor:  Robert Blake.

Online format combining synchronous chatting with technologically based materials. Not open to students who have taken course 3, 3S, 3Y, or higher. GE credit: WC 

CMN 170V: Digital Technology and Social Change

  • Video lectures; Online discussion

CMN 170V provides a conceptual understanding of how digital technologies transform our lives, through social media, mobile connectivity, globalization, big data, and artificial intelligence. Contexts for the course course include education, health, entrepreneurship, democracy, among others.
