This is a special nine-week intensive course that combines the work of courses CHN 1, 2 and 3. Students receive 15 credit units after successfully completing the entire course. This experience is designed for students who have no or very limited prior exposure to Chinese. It aims to develop basic communicative skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in Mandarin Chinese. As the basis of communicative competency, Mandarin pronunciation, writing system, basic grammar, and most useful vocabulary items will be introduced and practiced in contexts. Completion of this program with a passing grade fulfills a one-year foreign language requirement.

Prerequisite: Taking the Chinese Placement Test and being placed into the beginning level. Instructions and schedule of the Placement Test can be found at http://chinese.ucdavis.edu/placement/FrontPage. Questions should be directed to the instructors (to be determined).

Course fee for UC students: $2,370 plus $242.83 campus fee.
Course fee for non-UC students: $3,330 plus $242.83 campus fee and a $300 processing fee.

This is a special nine-week intensive course that combines the work of courses CHN 4, 5 and 6. Students receive 15 credit units after successfully completing the entire course. This experience is designed for students who have an elementary exposure to Chinese. It aims to develop basic communicative skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in Mandarin Chinese. As the basis of communicative competency, Mandarin pronunciation, writing system, basic grammar, and most useful vocabulary items will be introduced and practiced in contexts.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of CHN 1, 2, and 3 or taking the Chinese Placement Test and being placed into the intermediate level.
